Hello again fellow nerds, I've recently done the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Admins if you see this please don't remove this link i'm gonna give now. I know rules are rules but i'm not doing any piracy or anything like that, i'm simply giving a link to a previous discussion i had months ago on this very same thread and i need people to see it as what was said back then is almost ENTIRELY related to this and i'm only doing it because it'll make things a MILLION times easier if people can simply click on the link for all the info needed to try and help me out instead of having to copy and paste and make this question into a 20 page-long question. Ok so here is the background info you need to know (some of you might even see yourself here)..
https://ngemu.com/threads/completely-new-to-this-advice-would-be-appreciated.172633/
Ok now to cut to the chase.. all my PS1 games are working just fine except Parasite Eve 2. I love that game and it's definitely in my must-have list. Back when i was on Windows 7 (as you can see in that thread there) i just used Snight's 'Perfect Edition v3' and it did indeed work perfectly.
Now however since i upgraded to Windows 10, i tried the 'Perfect Edition' at first and it didn't work at all so i downloaded the latest version (v1.9.25) However still everytime i play PE2 when I examine areas, pick up items, go to the menu screen, move to another area etc. (basically anytime i press the X button on something) at first Aya's character on the screen started flickering (as did the info tabs that would come up on the screen and would last like that for the second or 2 they were up)
Then (as anyone who has played PE2 will know) I made it to the bit near the start where you first enter the cafeteria and the old lady changes into one of those creatures and Rupert comes in and shoots her with his revolver. After he does that the creature falls down on the ground invisible (you can't see it at all) but the audio still runs fine. I have't played further past this point because it's obvious this stuff will continue all game long, so i need to fix it.
Ok what else? I then PM'd some people i've gotten to know on here and was given some suggestions which i tried but nothing worked. I then basically just 'tried to get lucky' and just changed the settings all over the place not really knowing what i was doing but just hoping it would work but it simply got worse (ie. after Rupert shoots the creature him and Aya are then standing upside down on the friggen ceiling!! lol)
After that i decided to give the Perfect Edition one more go as it really did work perfect before and this time i googled the exact problems i was having and found a forum where some guy said what he was experiencing and i saw they were basically identical to my problems. One person in that thread suggested changing the video plug-in to Pete's D3D Driver 1.77 (on that Perfect Edition there was a Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.77 which i'm guessing is the same thing right?)
Anyway i chose that and my first screenshot i'll include here will be the settings i selected (because i really do know bugger all about this kind of stuff) and please can you lovely wonderful nerds look at it and tell me if i made the right choices or what you would recommend etc. please?
After i changed it to those settings i ran PE2 again and was amazed how crystal clear the picture was (best graphics on a PS1 game i've ever seen!!) and at first the game ran fine.. but then again when i went to interact with something, this time there was absolutely no flickering whatsoever.. instead Aya just disappeared off-screen while the info tabs were up or until you had progressed to the new area you were going to etc. (like through a door into another room)
At first i thought 'Ah stuff it, if that's the worst it's gonna be then i can handle it' but then i got to the f**king cafeteria bit again and this time everything ran just fine except the creature was invisible when it fell on the f**king floor again ffs!!
To end this rant, i then went to run back to the nearest telephone so i could save my progress because i have a strong feeling i almost have it right when now suddenly a new issue came up i've never seen before. That was when i ran past a certain section the colours got blurred. When i moved out of that certain section the background returned to normal, then when i ran past it again the blurry colours came back *facepalm* I'll include that screenshot as my second attachment here.
Okie doke, lol thanks so much if you took the time to read all that.. please one of you wonderful lovely nerds help me out to get this bastard working. Cheers
